The design of the four residential buildings amalgamates the two distinct and contrasting atmospheres of the site. On one side the buildings are seamlessly interwoven with the proposed commercial precinct [The Lanes Retail Village], while on the other side the radial distribution of the slender building mass addresses the natural contours of Lake Unity. The fluid movement of the architectural language responds to the proximity to the lake and the organic aesthetic mimics plant growth – specifically plants growing from the fertile alluvial soil you can find next to a lake or dam.
The sculptural expression achieved on the lower levels of the facade creates a natural connection between the private residential zone and the public lakeside recreational area and contributes to the activation of the lakefront making it a vibrant place for both residents and visitors.
Its prominent position at the intersection of Hooker Boulevard and Bermuda Street brings with it the opportunity to create an attractive landmark, to redefine the density of the suburb and to offer a new legibility for the inland urban environment. The introduction of the intermediate scale between the high-rise coastal developments of Broadbeach and the predominant single dwelling low-rise characteristic of the inland suburbs will set a new benchmark for the adjacent inland corridor.
Residents will enjoy an abundance of landscaped areas including a public outdoor amphitheatre which is predicted to form the heart of The Lanes Residences and a focal point for the outdoor retail promenade.
